More Information
Swiss chard is a leafy vegetable and the type produced for sale in northern Italy is known as the “Pugliese”. In central and southern Italy consumers prefer cut plants as opposed to entire heads. Swiss chard is consumed mainly in autumn and winter but our company offers it all year round.
These greens are much appreciated for their wealth of minerals, containing large amounts of sodium, magnesium, potassium, and calcium. Swiss chard also boasts a rich vitamin content, particularly pro-vitamin A (called beta-carotene), essential for healthy skin, eyes and tissue. It is easily digested and especially suitable for children, the elderly, and for pregnant women. Swiss chard also contains oxalic acid, a substance required for good bone health.
