Another member of the chicory family, which is very popular in northern Italy. This vegetable is typically cylindrical in shape, with bright green leaves. It is consumed all year round.
Sugarloaf chicory stimulates the functions of the bowels (thanks to its high fibre content), liver and kidneys, so it offers a depurative and detoxifying effect for the entire organism. It has plentiful bitter aromatic ingredients that stimulate the appetite and help digestion. Chicory also fosters water exchange by activating diuresis. It contains good amounts of minerals, especially calcium and iron.
